And the response he gets is, "If nobody finds out, there's no risk. And that's all I'll say on the matter." :-)
Ramsuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08437722898856442265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-84388189866242577582013-01-21T17:35:26.975-06:002013-01-21T17:35:26.975-06:00Yves just sent this comment, which I accidentally ...Yves just sent this comment, which I accidentally deleted:
Hi Beth,
Thanks for this little series, but unlike you, I really enjoyed Abhijan, which I'd describe as the struggle between aristocracy and meritocracy, because Narsingh's caste, that of the Kshatrya, or warrior, is what sets him apart from other lower-caste people. But he's assailed by moral problems which lower-caste people (his driver Rama, for one), or even the caste-critical Christians (Joseph, Milli etc.) handle far better than he does. So he's facing the classic conumdrum of the elite who should be moral models because of their rank, and are expected to be that, but in fact are only human beings like the rest of us.

And my response: I like that reading very much. Greed, pride, and other selfish motivations seemed to talk more than morals for most of Narsingh's decisions, didn't they? I did not catch the ethnic identity(ies) of the guy trying to get Narsingh into dirty work, but even he did not have any trouble with moral difficulties (he just picked the wrong side).Beth Loves Bollywoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540154833326987567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-32598069910717268282013-01-19T13:54:42.003-06:002013-01-19T13:54:42.003-06:00Sudipto - I have not! It's by Srijit Mukherjee (director of 'Autograph' and 'Baishe Shrabon') and came out last year. I believe, you would enjoy it - also, Soumitra has a 5 minute cameo in it :-)sudiptohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12206907399980632765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-43478089551697053992013-01-14T16:23:13.375-06:002013-01-14T16:23:13.375-06:00That is EXACTLY what I need to know! He's a very handsome fellow in the right 60s outfits, which is plenty enough to make me watch at least one more film. :)Beth Loves Bollywoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540154833326987567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-24125663942459207642013-01-14T12:31:37.228-06:002013-01-14T12:31:37.228-06:00Beth, I do love me some Biswajeet, but I may be in...Beth, I do love me some Biswajeet, but I may be in the minority. He is so wonderful (IMO) in BEES SAAL BAAD. I have one of his old Bengali films on DVD, but have yet to watch it. Quite frankly, I will watch anything that Biswajeet stars in.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
