Also Vijay Krishna Acharya, whose Tashan, Guru, and Pyaar Ke Side Effects are all much, much better than this.Beth Loves Bollywoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540154833326987567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-23032415714270748082009-08-05T11:53:55.393-05:002009-08-05T11:53:55.393-05:00We just watched this last night, out of a feeling ...We just watched this last night, out of a feeling of obligation. Re: your Dhoom review, I too was surprised at how much I did not hate Uday; it held through this awful piece of crap. I usually try to put my gender-analysis on hold while I watch action movies, because otherwise I will puff up and burst with the pressure of the things I do not say (effort not to annoy my companions), but this one was just such a wash. I agree completely with the Shonali/Monali b.s.-- but what got me the absolute most was Sunehri's "I'll be your mute shadow" bit. She has to shut up and let the man teach her. Also, she is so incompetent on a motorbike that even pathetic Uday can catch her at the end. Sigh. Far from being shameful that they don't credit the authors of these movies (to be fair, we kind of enjoyed Dhoom 1), I think they're doing them a favor by not exposing them to the world's censure. Whew. I feel better now. High points: Hrithik (who I did not admire in, say, Jodhaa Akbar) was the breath of life in this movie. He was great. I secretly enjoyed Uday's fantasy family with Monali, but kept hoping that they'd, like, add another kid every time they cut back to it or something. (Did you note that they were all boys?) The Rio scenes were hilarious in their looky-looky-ness, considering from the POV of an Indian audience. Or what I assume that POV might be.Elliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04888019230555832929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-79096443597754071002007-07-10T11:37:00.000-05:002007-07-10T11:37:00.000-05:00ggop - that character was so badly written. I feel bad for Aishwarya that she had to do that.

Aspi - um...well, Bips (I really like to say that) didn't really have much to do either. Both of her characters were vapid, it seemed to me. I was so excited about a female cop and then they make her into a dumb-dumb. Shame.

t-hype - totally - and if I loved Hrithik like you do I imagine I'd buy it too. He looks fine. I love him with longer wavy hair like that.

GuNs - you said it! I wonder what having SRK or Aamir or whoever will do for the next one?

Natalie - thanks and welcome! I completely understand about your reaction. I'm often a sucker for even the most ridiculous emotional scenes :)

Soniya - thank you! It really was not much of a smooch, in my opinion. As usual, I have no idea what all the fuss was about.Beth Loves Bollywoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05540154833326987567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-51757145555653960772007-07-10T11:26:00.000-05:002007-07-10T11:26:00.000-05:00Excellent commentary, Beth.
