I knew of Felicity as a gen celeb in the UK. I took it she was really big once just from audience reactions to her. These are great stories to hear, you know of just the cultural exchange in every sense that''s been going on forever but which everyone just assumes is a new thing, ie u know the twain shall never meet. Good to be reminded that they have always met and shall continue to meet, no matter what the public policy of the time might otherwise dictateecrvainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00458085941250584679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-27806330456034787122008-04-17T14:38:00.000-05:002008-04-17T14:38:00.000-05:00Oh I really have to track this down...:o)Oh I really have to track this down...:o)*~mad munky~*https://www.blogger.com/profile/16496367615568455286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-91881545057598837042008-04-15T19:10:00.000-05:002008-04-15T19:10:00.000-05:00I love those pix- specially the one with Shashi, J...I love those pix- specially the one with Shashi, Jen and their kids- they all look so perfectly beautiful!
I wept buckets through 36 Chowringhee Lane- jen is so realistic an actor that i almost wished she wasnt- so that i'd cry less :) I honestly wish she had made more movies.Shweta Mehrotra Gahlawathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13543438271055378809noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15977843.post-43581062219569815312008-04-15T14:14:00.000-05:002008-04-15T14:14:00.000-05:00Hey Beth,I have been a pretty regular reader of ur...Hey Beth,

I have been a pretty regular reader of ur blog ever since I stumbled across it from another friends blog, and just wanted to say I really enjoy the way you write. Oh wait, "somehow"=rabid Doctor Who fan Katrin told me. I finally saw an episode of the tenth doctor (I'm relying on PBS) this weekend. Woot!

ppcc - I have to say, reading this book made me far less jealous. I'm not sure whether she loved her life, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't. You are exactly right re: Kirron Kher - she's the one I channel.

I started a 1966 Shashi movie last night and paused when he first comes on screen to use your yardsticks. Clearly we are far from masala, but we appear to be close to Shammi-style arm-flinging and face-pulling. Shashi and Jennifer's real life has always held a perverse fascination for me - fueled by schoolgirl jealousy, it seems to me almost impossibly romantic. I just can't fathom the awesomeness of being in India, in the 1970s, wife of Shashi Kapoor. I become positively Om (as in Shanti Om) like about it, completely dazzled and incredibly envious. So I try to stay away from any Merchant-Ivory Shashi/Jennifer fare, while at the same time devouring gossip about them. I remember reading somewhere (Shammi's site?) where Shashi described that he and Jennifer used to go to the bazaar and share an apple. Sigh!!

In other news, I'm loving your Nahiiiiins. I keep thinking of Kirron Kher doing it.

And truly, a world without Suhaag, without Kaala Patthar, without Do Aur Do Paanch?
